Hollywood in Transition
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Explore the history of the late period of Classical Hollywood before the Hollywood Renaissance.
- Explain the most significant (or defining) elements of key historical moments in Hollywood in the late 1940s-1950s including the Hollywood Ten, the Blacklist, and the development of CinemaScope.
- Identify the film genres that are associated with the late Classical Hollywood period including film noir, melodrama, and the Freed musicals.
Notes from teacher:
The years between 1948 and 1963 were a period of transition
*Because it became illegal fo major studios to own movie theatre chains
*Ticket sales started going down between 1946-1953.
*TV became competition to the movies in the late 40's.
* Movie stars and movies were banned from TV until 1956 by the film industry.
