Pier Paolo Pasolini

Pier Paolo Pasolini

Pier Paolo Pasolini – Mast and Kawin refer to Pasolini as an anti-romantic. He began his life as a poet, and was expelled from the Communist Party for being gay. Pasolini made elliptical, satiric, and brutal films about moral and political degradation. Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom is based on a novel by the Marquis de Sade. In the film, we are subjected to a vision of political totalitarianism disguised as sadomasochistic sexuality. Four wealthy fascists: a duke, priest, judge, and a banker kidnap a group of 18 young men and women and torture them for 4 months in post Mussolini Italy (1944).

The Gospel According to St. Matthew recounts the story of Jesus Christ from the Nativity to the Resurrection. The film employs some of the characteristics of neorealism including the casting of non-professional actors. In the following clip, Jesus (Enrique Irazoqui) performs a miracle.
