The Sweet Hereafter (1997)
His most acclaimed film, The Sweet Hereafter (1997) is about a lawyer (Ian Holm) who attempts to launch a class action lawsuit against a school district in the aftermath of a bus accident that kills most of the children in a small town in British Columbia. The film uses the classic fairy tale "The Pied Piper of Hamelin" to communicate the relationship between the characters in the film.

The following clip:
Is among the most memorable in the film. Holm's Mitchell Stephens describes the journey taking his daughter to the hospital after she is bitten by a spider. The story gains emotional power as we learn that Stephens's daughter Zoe has become a drug addict in adulthood.
