Spike Lee

 Spike Lee

Spike Lee
1)came out of NYU’s film program in the 1980s and has become perhaps the most well known
   American black filmmaker.
2) His frank, reflexive style is “in your face.”
3) Many of his films are set and shot in Brooklyn and tackle the clichés about black experience in
    American culture.
4) His first two features She’s Gotta Have It (1986) and School Daze (1988)
address the images black people have of one another, while his best-known film,
5) Do The Right Thing (1989), looks at interracial relations between inhabitants of a Brooklyn
   neighborhood.
6)Since the 1980s, he has went on to direct films with budgets of tens of millions of dollars.

In the following clip from She's Gotta Have It, Nola (Tracy Camilla Johns) compares the pickup lines of several males to the honest approach of Jamie (Tommy Redmond Hicks).

We didn't see this in class - we saw her getting pick up lines from a lot of different men.
Oh - this isn't the trailer but a reshoot by a film student to make it more feminist. Good Clip.
